Here's your chance to own a rare example of the final year of El Camino production, customized by one of the premier conversion companies of the era!

Chevrolet debuted the El Camino for the 1959 model year, bringing a coupe utility vehicle to the marketplace in competition with the Ford Ranchero.  After disastrous sales numbers in the 1960 model year, GM executives moved the El Camino to the back burner until it was resurrected for the 1964 model year.  Chevy got it right that time, as the El Camino worked through several different configurations before it was discontinued at the end of the 1987 model year.

Choo Choo Customs was founded in 1975 in Chatanooga, TN and made a name for itself as one of the premier conversion van builders in the United States.  The company took basic utilitarian vans and churned out luxurious vehicles with dazzling paint schemes and over-the-top interiors featuring plush seats, high-end stereo systems and later gaming consoles.  Soon the company had extended their services to include shortbed pickups, crew cab duallies and Chevy’s Suburban.

At Chevrolet’s urging, Choo Choo began offering a customized version of the El Camino SS through Chevy dealers for the 1983 model year.  While GM claims that about 5,000 El Caminos went through Choo Choo’s shop the true number was approximately half that number in total.

This 1987 Chevrolet El Camino SS Choo Choo edition is one of just 861 SS models built for the final year of production.  The number of 1987 Choo Choo conversions is not documented conclusively.  Power is derived from a 305 cubic inch V8 engine backed by a four speed automatic overdrive transmission.  The full complement of power accessories—power steering, power brakes, power windows, power door locks, cruise control and air conditioning—are present.  The grey cloth bucket seat interior also features consoles both on the floor and overhead.  The black paint is presentable, showing signs that this vehicle has been driven and enjoyed by previous owners.

The overall condition of the car leads us to believe the just over 30,000 miles shown on the five digit odometer may be actual but this cannot be substantiated.  In accordance with statutes governing licensed Missouri automobile dealers, this El Camino will be sold “mileage exempt” due to age.
